The Complete Guide to Bodysurfing
No board, no leash, no crowd. Everything I’ve worked out in the shorebreak, written down so you don’t have to learn it the slow way.
Written by Bodysurf Baz. Every bit of gear here is judged on what it does in real surf.
Two things people come here for
Learning to catch waves without a board, and working out which gear is worth the money.
Learn
Technique from your first wave to reading a bank properly. How to catch one, how to hold a line, how to get under a set without getting worked.
Gear
Handplanes, fins and rash guards, reviewed on what they do in the water. No listicles padded out with things I’d never wear.
Destinations is being written now and will land here when there’s something worth reading.
Gear worth buying, and gear that isn’t
Three reviews live now. Each one is built around what actually survives a season in shorebreak.

What Is Bodysurfing?
The oldest way to ride a wave, where it came from, and why people still choose it over a board.

Who’s writing this
G’day, I’m Baz
I’ve been bodysurfing Queensland beaches most of my life. No board, no leash, just working out what the wave is doing and going with it.
I started this site because most bodysurfing advice online is written by board surfers, and most gear roundups are written by people who have never been dumped on a sandbank. Everything here gets judged on what it does in real surf, and I say plainly when I haven’t tested something myself.
